May SAM Assembly 206 Meeting
The May meeting of SAM Assembly 206 will be on Monday, May 18th at 7:00 PM in the meeting room at Hilgers House.
At the May meeting, Past-President Adam Dunraven will discuss the importance of scripting. Adam wrote and produced Hilgers Haunted Nights last year and is a proponent of scripting your magic. Some magicians think a script locks them into a presentation and prefer to improvise on the spot. If that's more in line with your thinking, I encourage you to consider scripting differently; it actually opens up more opportunities for you. With a script, you're free to improvise, but you always know where you are and can pick up where you left off.
We were fortunate at the April meeting to have a great discussion about the types of magic that work well for entertaining people in retirement homes and hospitals. Members who attended and expressed interest in volunteering shared contact information with me. If you weren't able to attend but are interested in participating, please email me, and I'll reach out with more information about this opportunity.
We also had a new member join the meeting. Please give our newest member, Abi Gautam, a warm welcome!
We'll continue with our feedback sessions, followed by Open Mic time, at the next meeting, so bring something that needs some polishing or that new trick you just want to try out in front of some people.
If you have a public show to promote or anything else you'd like included in a future newsletter, please email me at J Weldon.
I’ll see everyone at the next meeting on Monday, May 18th, at 7:00 PM in the Hilgers House meeting room.
